Police locate car belonging to missing woman
MERCER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said they have located the car of a Mercer County woman who disappeared four years ago.
The blue 1988 Honda Accord owned by Sandra K. Baker was found June 10, police said.
They refused to release any details of where or how the car was located, but there were unofficial reports that it was found in Pittsburgh.
Friends of Baker's hadn't seen the car since May 25, 2000, the day she disappeared.
Last seen
Baker, who would be 52 now, was last seen with her fianc & eacute;, William Crea, and the car at the Sheetz convenience store on Pa. Route 18 in Transfer shortly before 9 a.m. May 25, 2000.
Crea reported her missing four days later, telling police she had called him later in the day that she disappeared to say she was in some kind of trouble and would contact him later. He told police he never heard from her again.
No information, such as any contact with friends or relatives or any paper trail, has ever developed about her whereabouts, police said on the fourth anniversary of her disappearance.
Homicide probePolice said they are treating the case as a homicide investigation, though it's officially a missing person case. Police recently assigned a new criminal investigator, Trooper William Peterson, to the case.
Leads are continuing to develop and finding Baker's car was a significant development in the case, he said.
