Out-of-state police help in Ohio rescue

DAYTON (AP) -- Out-of-state law-enforcement officers returning to their hotel from a softball tournament rescued a motorist who was thrown from his pickup truck and pinned underneath Saturday afternoon.
Officers from Long Island, N.Y., and Minnesota helped Dayton officers lift the pickup off the driver along Interstate 75.
The driver, in his late 30s, whose name was not released, was sent to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries, according to Dayton police Sgt. Michael Pauley. A nursing supervisor said privacy laws prevented the hospital from providing any information.
The southbound pickup had swerved into another lane to avoid a vehicle heading to the shoulder with a flat tire. The pickup crashed into another car.
"Instincts took over when we saw the flipped pickup truck," said Suffolk County (N.Y.) Police Officer Leo Batton. He said seven or eight players from the Suffolk County police team and the Minnesota Lawmen all-star team helped push the truck upright.
