Man drowns in pool
PULASKI, Pa. -- A mentally challenged Amish man drowned over the weekend in a residential pool.
Pennsylvania State Police said Jonathan H. Byler, 45, of RD 1, Box 165, was reported missing at 9 a.m. Saturday by his father. He was last seen at 8 p.m. Friday cutting grass at his home.
An extensive search was conducted by state police and firefighters from Pulaski, Union, New Wilmington, Neshannock and North Beaver, along with scent dogs and scuba teams. Family members told police Byler had an affinity for water, streams and ponds and was a poor swimmer.
A private homeowner found Byler's body in his in-ground swimming pool at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, about two miles from Byler's home. He apparently entered the pool undetected sometime overnight. The home owner did not know the victim, police said.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was called in to investigate two suspicious blazes on the city's east side. Fire Chief Jeff Scrim said firefighters were called to 489 E. Washington St. for a fire at 8:38 p.m. Saturday. The home was occupied, but no one was home, Scrim said. A second floor apartment was damaged. The property is owned by Guy Call of Court Street. Firefighters were also called to a vacant home at 908 Chestnut St. at 9:58 p.m. Sunday. Scrim said they don't know who owns the home, but the house was for sale. The flames were contained to the kitchen, he said.

Police said David G. Campbell III of Glen Cove, N.Y., was driving his vehicle west on I-80 around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when, for an unknown reason, it went off the left side of the road into the median.
Campbell apparently tried to pull back onto the road but oversteered and went off the other side of the highway, police said. His vehicle then flipped over, perhaps as many as three times, police said.
Campbell was wearing a seat belt. He was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
11 immigrants held
BARKEYVILLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said they apprehended 11 apparently illegal immigrants during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Clinton Township. A trooper stopped the vehicle, which carried a California registration, around 3:20 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes and found 11 people inside who were traveling from Los Angeles to New York. All appeared to be in this country illegally and were taken to the state police barracks at Mercer to be held to be interviewed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agents from Pittsburgh.
