Worker from Nevada to face burglary charge
Worker from Nevadato face burglary charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A migrant worker from Reno, Nev., is scheduled to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court on Monday on a charge of burglary.
Police arrived at 210 Elm St. at 10:20 p.m. Friday after receiving a call of a man entering the vacant portion of a duplex. When officers entered the structure, they found 49-year-old Antoni Mosqueda inside, hiding on the floor. Though Mosqueda spoke no English, officers were able to determine he was not taking anything from the property, but only trying to sleep there.
Because Mosqueda had broken a window to gain entry, he was charged with burglary, arrested without incident and taken to the Mahoning County Jail, reports said.
Arrested on gun charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police arrested a city man on a gun charge while looking for another man involved in a shooting earlier on the city's North Side.
Reports state that while police were searching for a man involved in a shooting on Elm Street, two officers stopped and searched a man who resembled the Elm Street suspect on Tacoma Avenue. Police then arrested John Moore, 18, of Kensington Avenue, and charged him with carrying a concealed weapon after police found an unloaded pellet gun in his waistband.

Levy meeting likely
AUSTINTOWN -- The school board will likely have a special meeting in the coming weeks to consider the first resolution needed to put a levy on November's ballot, Superintendent Stan Watson said.
Watson has recommended the board place a levy on the November ballot to raise revenue. He said school officials have not determined the length or millage for the proposed levy. School officials have predicted that the district will have a $1.6 million deficit at the end of next school year.
The board, which has regular meetings once each month, has until Aug. 19 to pass the two resolutions that would be needed to put a levy on the ballot. The levy is not expected to be discussed at the July board meeting, slated for Monday.
License suspended
SHARON, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Education has suspended the license of a former teacher in the Grove City Area School District.
The department suspended the license of Todd M. Shaffer effective Feb. 25 of this year. He could not be reached to comment.
The state said Shaffer's last employment at a Pennsylvania school was as an English teacher in the Grove City Area School District and the suspension was the result of allegations that he sent inappropriate instant messages by computer to students.
