Meeting time changes
The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission has changed its meeting time to 9 a.m. Fridays at the Mahoning County Annex, 2801 Market St. The change took place July 2.
ACADEMY GRADS
From Mercer County
Two Mercer County residents are recent graduates of military academies. Both had been nominated for appointment to the academies by U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd.
Navy Ensign Kari Szewczykof Greenville graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and Army Lt. Benjamin Lewis of Grove City, Pa., graduated from the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
Fitch alumnus
Air Force 2nd Lt. Matthew J. Mullins has graduated from the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He received a bachelor's degree in management and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
Mullins, the son of Dave and Ruth Mullins of Austintown, is scheduled to attend intelligence officer school at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. He is a 1999 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
HONORS
Meritorious service
Navy Chief Petty Officer Michael V. Keith, son of Marian and Larry L. Keith of New Castle, Pa., received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for three years of outstanding service as administrative officer assigned to Joint Task Force, Civil Support, U.S. Northern Command, Fort Monroe, Va.
After the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, Keith helped get running the Joint Operations Center within one hour of the attack. He then assisted in the processing of key information that kept his command and U.S. Joint Forces Command leadership informed. During the following period of heightened alert, he helped plan and execute several national special security events, including the 2002 and 2003 State of the Union addresses, Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII, and the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Keith, a 1980 graduate of Shenango High School, New Castle, is assigned to Naval Reserve Recruiting Command Detachment, Atlantic Fleet Career Information Team, Norfolk, Va.
DEPLOYED
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Air Force 1st Lt. Matthew J. Glaros is deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Glaros, a Catholic chaplain, is normally assigned to the 81st Training Wing Chapel, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.
He is the son of Ronald and Judith Glaros of Midland, Mich. His aunt and uncle, Chuck and Linda Saulino, live in Canfield. Glaros graduated in 1989 from Medina Senior High School, received a bachelor's degree in 1993 from John Carroll University, Cleveland, and earned a master's degree in 1999 from St. Mary Seminary, Wickliffe.

Army: Reserve Pvt. Chad E. Richards (Mercer, Pa., Junior-Senior High School, '99), son of David Richards of Mercer.
Navy: Seaman Apprentice Scott J. Davis (Leetonia High School, '03), son of Janet M. and John F. Davis of Leetonia; Seaman Recruit Quinetra Glover (Warren G. Harding High School, Warren, '03), daughter of Juanita M. Sanders of Youngstown and Neil Glover of Austintown.
