Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to any residences, but the garage was declared a loss. The damage estimate was $5,000.
License suspended
SHARON, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Education has suspended the license of a former teacher in the Grove City Area School District.
The department suspended the license of Todd M. Shaffer effective Feb. 25 of this year. He could not be reached to comment.
The state said Shaffer's last employment at a Pennsylvania school was as an English teacher in the Grove City Area School District and the suspension was the result of allegations that he sent inappropriate instant messages by computer to students.
Dr. Robert Post, Grove City superintendent, confirmed that Shaffer taught English at Grove City High School for 21/2 years but resigned in December 2001 as a result of the case that eventually led to his license suspension.
