SOUTH SIDE Church, restaurant owner team up for gospel event
The festival will feature music, giveaways and health screenings.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A South Side church is bringing its musical message to the street with the help of a local restaurant owner.
Faith Temple United Pentecostal Church of Christ, 100 E. Myrtle Ave., Youngstown, and McDonald's restaurant proprietor James Harris will sponsor a gospel festival and community day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday at McDonald's, 2525 Market St., Youngstown.
Rev. Robert G. Moore Jr., pastor of Faith Temple, said the church meets the needs of people, and like Jesus Christ, who did most of his ministry wandering in the streets of his times, the church is doing the same with this event.
"We take the church to them," the Rev. Mr. Moore said.
Musical lineup
Musical acts will include five groups Nathaniel Burge & amp; Praise, Tru-Image and New Convenant, all of Cleveland; Divine Soldiers of Akron; and the Family Worship Center of Youngstown. The soloists will be Evangelist Carol Eutsey of Akron and Minister Pete Figueroa and Psalmist Charvalle Metcalf, both of Cleveland.
Those attending also will be able to get a health checkup as well as a spiritual lift. There will be free blood pressure checks and free mammograms for women 35 and older who register at (330) 746-3077. Mr. Moore said more than 30 already have made reservations for the mammograms.
Ronald McDonald will appear between noon and 2 p.m., and there will be giveaways of 300 T-shirts, 200 cheeseburgers and more than 200 water bottles.
Mr. Moore said the event's co-sponsor, Harris, also has helped support the church's weekly radio broadcast Sundays on WGFT 1500 AM. Mr. Moore said the plan is to make the festival an annual event.
