In 'Music Man' choir
Kiana Lyon, 10, a pupil at Lowellville Elementary School, is in the children's chorus of Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's production of "The Music Man." Performances continue today and Tuesday through next Sunday at Benedum Center, 719 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh. Kiana is one of 50 children in the choir; the others are from greater Pittsburgh. Starring in the musical are actors Jeff Goldblum ("Jurassic Park"), Ed Begley Jr. ("St. Elsewhere") and Illeana Douglas ("Grace of My Heart").
'Bachelor' star at museum
COLUMBIANA -- Andrew Firestone, a star of the ABC reality TV series "The Bachelor," will sign autographs from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Log House Museum on the village square. Firestone is a great-grandson of Harvey S. Firestone, founder of Firestone Tire & amp; Rubber Co. Harvey Firestone was born in Columbiana, and Firestone Park is named for his family. Andrew Firestone helps to run the Firestone family vineyard in California with his father, Brooks Firestone.
Matinee for children
HOWLAND -- Tent Troupe, a traveling summer tent theater, will present a free performance of "Animal Tales" at 2 p.m. Thursday under a big top at Shepherd of the Valley retirement home, 4100 N. River Road.
The interactive program will feature stories, songs and folk tales from around the world, adapted by Valerie Tripp, author of the American Girl series.
Before the performance by the group of high school performers from St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, Md., there will be 15 minutes of audience participation songs and dances.
Area children in musical
WARREN -- "Let Us Entertain You," an original musical by W.D. Packard Foundation Youth Theatre, will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W. '50s party at center
YOUNGSTOWN -- A "Bop 'Til You Drop" '50s Party will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 19 at Steel Valley Community Outreach Center, 2616 Mahoning Ave.
The evening will feature games contests, face painting, puppet shows, dances and refreshments. There will also be a guest appearance by an Elvis impersonator.

Packard presentation
WARREN -- Trumbull County Historian Wendell Lauth will give a slide presentation called "Five Generations of the Packard Family" at 4 p.m. July 21 at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave.
The free presentation will explore the family's contributions to business, industry and culture in the Youngstown-Warren area. It is a prelude to the annual Packard Car Show on July 24-25 in Warren.
Life in balance
CANFIELD -- A healing and energy balancing sound session will be at 6 p.m. July 31 at the Treat Yourself Holistic Center, 3837 Starr Center Road.
Quartz crystal singing bowls and flutes will be used to produce sonic vibrations designed to induce energy balancing and meditation.

Beach Party 2004 set
LAKE MILTON -- Fins to the Left will play Jimmy Buffett songs at Beach Party 2004 on Aug. 7 on the beach at Lake Milton State Park. Gates will open at 5 p.m., and the band will play at 6:30 p.m. Games are planned, and food and beverages will be available. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children.
