Man gets life in prison

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) -- A man convicted of robbing and killing a couple as they slept in their home last year received two consecutive life sentences.
Jason Campbell, 23, of Middletown, was sentenced to an extra 25 years Thursday by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Michael Sage for additional charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and escape.
Prosecutors said Campbell jumped the fence of a minimum security correctional facility in Lebanon and got a ride to Hamilton on Feb. 23, 2003. Campbell, a former friend of one of the victims' relatives, entered their home through an unlocked back door and attacked the couple in their bedroom.
Donald Riley, 44, died of strangulation. Helen Riley, 55, suffered 10 stab wounds, and her throat was slit, according to the Butler County Coroner's Office.
During the trial, a psychologist testified that Campbell was abused and neglected as a child and was irreparably damaged by age 11.
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty.
