ALLIANCE-BARBER AIRPORT Taylorcraft holds annual fly-in and reunion

ALLIANCE -- The 32nd annual Taylorcraft Owners Club Fly-in and Old Timers' Reunion is today, Saturday and Sunday at the Alliance-Barber Airport, three miles north of Alliance on state Route 225.
Hosted by Barber Aircraft Inc. and Taylorcraft Foundation Inc., the three-day event features flight and skydiving demonstrations, forums, Taylorcraft Owners Club meetings, food and an old-timers' reunion.
The first fly-in was at the Barber airport in 1973 with the builders of the Taylorcraft airplane. The Taylorcraft airplane was built in Alliance from 1937 to 1947 and again from 1968 through 1986.
Vintage airplanes from all over the United States, Canada and Mexico will be arriving at the airport. Some arrived Thursday.
The Taylorcraft Foundation was formed to preserve the history and records of the various Taylorcraft companies that have operated in and around Alliance.
The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 82 will serve breakfast at the airport Saturday and Sunday beginning at 7 a.m. The breakfast is open for fliers and the public. Friday evening, food will be provided by the Lexington Ruritans and corn on the cob and bratwurst will be offered Saturday evening. There will also be food available at concession stands.
The Old-Timers' Reunion group will be on hand throughout the weekend with many photos of Taylorcraft planes and the Taylorcraft operation in Alliance. The Old-Timers will be available to visit with other former Taylorcraft employees and present Taylorcraft owners.
The Old-Timers will fly before their Early-Bird Breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday at Don Panchos, West State Street.
