SANDLOT BASEBALL Wharmby-Astro game suspended
The Class B playoff contest resumes today with Wharmby leading 7-4.
STRUTHERS -- Rain caused Wednesday's Class B League playoff game between Wharmby Sports and Astro Falcons to be suspended.
In the top of the fourth inning, Wharmby was ahead 7-4 in the game at Cene Park.
The game will resume today at 6 p.m. on Cene 1 and another playoff game three will follow 20 minutes.
Wharmby scored three runs in the first inning and four in the third while Astro Falcons tallied twice in second and third and then the rains came.
Little b
Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy stayed alive in the Class Little b Championship Series with a 12-11 win over Livi Steel.
The wild contest saw the two teams combine for 23 runs on 28 hits with eight errors.
Livi leads the series 2-1 with game four slated for 6 tonight at Cene Park 2.
The two teams used nine pitchers. Craig Schmidt, the second Koch/Line Drive pitcher of the game, picked up the win.
Brett Dutton led the offense with three hits while Kevin Sikora, Corey Susany and D.J. Ronci had two hits each, both of Ronci's being doubles.
Ryan Miller took the loss for Livi. C.J. Morris had three singles for Livi while Mike Welce, Tony Pozega, Kyle Banna and Aaron Cosmo added two hits each.
Babe Ruth playoffs
Behind the complete-game 12 strikeout pitching performance of Cory Collins, Rondinelli Tuxedo defeated Koch-Line Drive, 9-3, in the deciding game of the age 14-15 championship series.
Collins walked just one and allowed only one earned run. He also hit a triple and single.
Chuck Olesky and Tony Brunetti added three hits each while Jesse Moses had two singles.
Class AA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Y-Town Metros won a pair at Oakland Field, beating Muscle Works, 17-3, and Bud's/Pal Joey's, 5-3, in a rain-completed game.
Jeremy Hedegone had a triple and double and scored three times while Mike Babyak also scored three runs against Muscle Works in a game curtailed to five innings by the mercy rule.
Jeff Hehr also tripled for Y-Town. Ed Morales allowed six hits over five innings for the victory.
Mike Huston had a double and single and scored once while Steve Atkinson had two singles for Muscle Works, which was hurt by four errors.
Against Bud's/Pal Joey's, Y-Town scored all of its runs in the first three innings. Jeff Hehr had two singles, George Rohan tripled and Josh Conkey got the win.
In taking the loss, Matt Raiti struck out nine. At bat, Raiti had a double and scored twice, Kinsey Henderson had two hits and Caleb Goist doubled.
Warren AA
WARREN -- Three hits by Kyle Irish and two by Scott Brewster led lone Wolf Freight Systems to a 5-3 win over Bazetta-Cortland Optimists. Irish had two RBIs while Frank Tempesta doubled.
D.J. Gross was the winning pitcher.
Ryan Monti's three hits plus two each by Dave McClurg, Cedric Turner and Ray Nemtz led Optimists. Eric Lance took the loss. Turner and Nemtz doubled.
Phil Butch had four hits as Champion Molded Plastics defeated Gibson-Governor Insurance (2-14), 9-7.
Tyson Rowland, Chris Green and Mike Sweeney had two hits each while Ben Barnett was the winning pitcher and Cedric Haynes earned the save. Green drove in three runs and tripled while Butch doubled twice. Evan Agona also doubled for the winners.
Dave DeJulio took the loss. Rick DiMuzio had four hits while Joe O'Hara had three. Bob Thompson brought home two runners while DiMuzio and Brian Shiraldi doubled.
In Penn-Ohio's (11-8) 11-5 win over D & amp;K Roofing (6-11), Steve Liebal struck out six batters to earn the win. Shawn Lucas had three hits and Glenn Morris had two. Mike Hanck drove in three runs and Jim Newbrough two. Hanck, Morris and Ryan Burke homered.
Brandon Keck was the losing pitcher. Rob Thompson had two hits, Andrew Burnett had two RBIs, and Mike Lepro, Thompson, Burnett and Ben Machall doubled.
In Champion's (18-1) 5-4 win over Lone Wolf (7-10), Haynes was the winning pitcher and Phil Butch and John Grabowski had two hits each. One of Grabowski's was a double.
For Lone Wolf, losing pitcher Frank Tempesta had two hits while Adam Morgan's two hits included a homer. Tempesta and Brian Smith doubled.
In Shevies' (5-13) 3-1 win over Bazetta-Cortland Optimists (9-8), John Nastase struck out nine batters for the win. Christian Thoma's two hits included a triple.
Losing pitcher Brandon Hillman doubled.
