Ursuline's Irizarry enrolls at YSU, but has no plans to play football

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Former Ohio State tight end Louis Irizarry, who was suspended indefinitely after being charged with robbery, has enrolled at Youngstown State, but apparently has no immediate plans to play football.
The school's sports information director, Trevor Parks, said Tuesday he had no knowledge of any contact between Irizarry and Penguins coaches.
The criminal charges against Irizarry, 19, and teammate Ira Guilford, 18, a running back, stem from a May 1 incident on the Ohio State campus in which another student claimed he was jumped by two men who stole his wallet.
Irizarry and Guilford both pleaded innocent to robbery charges in Franklin County Common Pleas Court in Columbus and a trial date has been set for Sept. 2.
The players, both sophomores, were barred from attending classes or being on campus.
On June 7, Irizarry was arrested on campus and charged with trespassing. He has a hearing set for Thursday in Franklin County Municipal Court.
Irizarry is a native of Youngstown who graduated from Youngstown Ursuline.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel coached at Youngstown State for 15 seasons before taking over at Ohio State in 2001.
Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger has said Irizarry's and Guilford's scholarships have been revoked.
If Irizarry should be allowed to play for the Penguins, he would be eligible immediately under NCAA rules because Youngstown State is a Division I-AA school.
