Sharon cops add charges for Brookfield man
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a Brookfield man faces additional criminal charges after he assaulted a witness who was present when police arrested him on charges of possession of illegal drugs.
Maurice L. Davis Jr., 19, of Brookfield Avenue, was initially arrested around 1:30 a.m. today after a fight in the 200 block of Mesabi Street.
Police arriving at the scene said they saw Davis put something into the lap of a woman at the scene. The material turned out to be two plastic bags holding suspected crack and one bag holding suspected powdered cocaine, police said.
The woman wasn't charged, but Davis was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
After his arrest, police discovered that he had a stab wound of the back that he received in the fight, and they took him to Sharon Regional Health System.
Davis refused treatment for the injury and police opted to release him to the custody of his mother rather than have him spend the night in jail.
However, around 3 a.m., Davis and his mother returned to the 200 block of Mesabi where Davis is alleged to have punched the woman to whom he had handed the suspected drugs just before his arrest.
He and his mother left the scene, and police said Davis now faces charges of assault and intimidation of a witness.
