Livi Steel 14, Koch/Line Drive 9 -- Livi Steel pounded out 14 hits and took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five championship series. Livi took advantage of four Koch/Line Drive errors to score eight unearned runs in the contest. Kyle Banna had three hits, including a double, while Marc Rossi had a pair of doubles and Mike Welce a single and a double for Livi. Aaron Cosma went the first five innings for the win. D.J. Ronci had a pair of doubles for the losers, while Kevin Sikora added two hits, one of them a triple, and three RBIs.
Babe Ruth (14-15)
Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy 4, Rondinelli 3 -- Koch/Line Drive scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to even the best-of-three series. A two-run double in the fifth by Eric Polem and two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth lifted Koch. Cameron Anderson tossed a complete game for the win, allowing two earned runs and striking out two. Tomy Brunetti had two hits for Rondinelli, while Katich had a two-run triple in the sixth inning. The deciding game will be at 6 p.m. tonight at Cene Park.
Rondinelli 6, Line Drive 0 -- In Monday's game, Rondinelli scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the third to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Cory Collins allowed five hits and struck out eight to pick up the win. Dan Kubala and Matt Katich each hit a double.
Tri-T Colt (15-17)
Austintown Artistic Images 8, Poland Spartan Chevrolet 2 -- Matt Prachick and Tim Connell combined to pitch a three-hitter, striking out nine batters for Artistic Images. Prachick also hit a two-run triple. Billy Taylor, Shane Price and Tom DeToro each had two hits. Colin Durina led Spartan Chevrolet with two hits, including a double.
Babe Ruth (age 13)
Astro Falcons 11, Line Drive 9 -- Drew Fitzpatrick pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs to get the win in the first game of the championship series. Brian Visingardy came in the last inning for the save. Trent Vallinger, Rick Segesto, Jason Bagoly and Dante Lewis all had two hits each for Astro. Nick Crum and Pat O'Brien pitched for Line Drive. Crum and Brad Byers had two hits each.
SOFTBALL
Travel
The Valley Sting Purple 16U fastpitch team -- traveled to Cincinnati this past weekend and finished in a tie for fifth place in the 25-team NSA state tournament in Cincinnati. Sting opened the tournament with Markie Pozzuto of Mecca pitching a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts to beat the Miami Valley Express Blue, 2-0. Amy Downs of Cortland and Pozzuto had the RBIs. Pozzuto had another one-hitter as Sting upended Ohio Ice (Hair) 2-0. Allie Patton of Poland had two hits and scored both runs. Kari Thompson of Poland had two hits and an RBI, and Chelsea Butler of Cortland had a hit and an RBI. In an elimination game, Pozzuto once again threw a one-hitter and faced only two batters over the minimum as Sting won 2-0 over the Lady Lasers Blue team. Patton had two hits and Downs and Pozzuto supplied the RBIs. Lady Lasers Gold defeated Sting, 4-3, using the international tiebreaker. Patton again had two hits and Thompson and Butler added key hits. Sting Purple travels this weekend to Marion for the ASA State Tournament.
Tri-T Pony (14-under)
Boardman Diamond Steel 5, Poland Eich Brothers 3 -- Shannon Morrow scattered four hits as she pitched a complete game to pick up the win in the first round of the playoffs. Justine Culling collected three hits, while Brittany Burin and Katie Packo each had two. Jesse Hall and Jenna Barnhart had two hits apiece for Eich Brothers.
