Last year: Vijay Singh won in a Monday finish, beating Chris Riley, J.L. Lewis and Jonathan Byrd by four strokes.
Last week: Stephen Ames won his first career PGA Tour title, beating Steve Lowery by two strokes in the Western Open. Tiger Woods tied for seventh, five strokes back.
Notes: J.P. Hayes won the 2002 tournament, shooting a course-record 61 in the second round and finishing at 22-under 262 -- the lowest score in relation to par in tournament history. ... The tournament moved to Deere Run in 2000 after 25 years at Oakwood in Coal Valley. D.A. Weibring, the winner in 1979, 1991 and 1995, designed the Deere Run course. ... The top finisher not otherwise exempt for the British Open will earn a spot next week at Royal Troon. ... The B.C. Open also is next week in Endicott, N.Y.

Last year: Beth Daniel became the oldest winner in LPGA Tour history, birdieing the final two holes to beat Juli Inkster by a stroke at Point Grey in Vancouver, British Columbia. At 46 years, 8 months, 29 days, Daniel broke the record of 46 years, 5 months, 11 days set by JoAnne Carner in the 1985 SAFECO Classic.
Last week: Meg Mallon won her second U.S. Open title, closing with a 6-under 65 -- the best final round by a champion in tournament history -- to beat Annika Sorenstam by two strokes at Orchards in South Hadley, Mass. Mallon also won the 1991 tournament.

Last year: Craig Stadler won his first senior title, beating Tom Watson, Jim Thorpe and Tom Kite by three strokes. Stadler won the B.C. Open the following week to become the first Champions Tour player to win a PGA Tour event.
Last week: Thorpe successfully defended his Long Island Classic title, beating Bobby Wadkins, Andy Bean and Wayne Levi by a stroke.
