Regular e-mails chronicled trip around the world

Dear Heloise: My friend went on a 120-day cruise around the world and just loved it. She wanted to share her experiences with her family and friends, so she sent e-mail and photos using the ship's computer about once every two weeks or so.
I transferred the e-mails to a file, saved them and printed every one out. I then put them together in book form in a three-ring binder and presented her with a "Trip of a Lifetime" memory book. I even printed out photos and arranged them to coincide with each place she visited.
She was absolutely thrilled with it, and even though she saved her e-mails in her computer, she never thought of printing them to show friends and family who don't have computers. They loved it! Sarah A., via e-mail
Don't you love new technology? It was thoughtful of you to take the time to give her a memory book that she'll have forever and can share with others. Heloise
Fast facts: Don't throw away those old, hard eyeglass cases -- they can be used for a number of things:
UKeep some crayons in one -- prevents them from breaking.
UOrganize costume jewelry in a few cases and keep them in a drawer.
UUse them to store small game pieces while traveling.
UUse them to hold pens and pencils.
Dear Heloise: When my father needed to start using a walker, we ran into a small problem. He could not hang on to the walker and carry anything at the same time.
I took a carpenter's apron and stretched it across the front of the walker at the top edge. I wrapped and pinned the apron ties on the sidebars of the walker. We also got a small bottle of water with a cap. This way, he could carry the water and a cordless phone in the pockets of the apron.
He felt more independent, and I know he had the phone handy to call for help. This might help others with the same problem. Sandy Strongheart, Aberdeen, S.D.
Dear Readers: Finished with your mascara? Don't throw away that old mascara wand! Wash it thoroughly and use it to separate eyelashes and comb eyebrows.
This hint is not only for women. The wand is a perfect size to brush mustaches, too!
Dear Heloise: To protect odd-shaped areas that you don't want painted with spray paint, cover with plastic wrap until sealed.
Example: Protect the harp and cord of a lamp you are going to spray-paint. Marie Poage, Houston
Sound off: Why do the makers of household cleaning products use white or light print on light background for instructions and warnings?
I am a senior citizen and have had to get a magnifying glass and be in direct light to read the directions and cautions to use the products. I am sure there are others who have to do the same. Jackie, Alabama
Me included, and I don't need glasses to read! Heloise
