D.C. United crushes MetroStars
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Alecko Eskandarian had two goals and Earnie Stewart scored for the first time since last September, giving D.C. United a 6-2 win over the MetroStars Saturday.
The six goals tied a D.C. franchise record, set July 7, 1996 against Dallas. The win also moves the United (5-5-5) into first place in the Eastern Conference.
Jaime Moreno had a goal and two assists, including the goal that gave D.C. the lead for good in the 37th minute.
Freddy Adu entered the game in the 82nd minute, and was hit with yellow card in his season-low eight minutes of play.
Eskandarian added goals in 41st and the 69th minutes. Stewart scored in the 57th minute for the first time in 23 games.
Ryan Nelsen tied the game at 1 for United with a jumping header in the 30th minute, just 12 minutes after Eddie Gaven had given MetroStars a 1-0 lead.
Ben Olsen scored the final goal on a free kick in the 92nd minute.
Fabian Taylor scored the for MetroStars in the 63rd minute.
