Just in time for the Fourth of July, "The Patriot" (8 p.m., CBS) is the story of a hero (Mel Gibson) from the earlier French and Indian War who is reluctant to join the Revolution. But after one of his sons is killed by a British officer (Jason Isaacs), he becomes a leader in the fight for independence.
An accident transforms Jackie Chan into a combination of "immortal warrior" and superhero in "The Medallion" (8 p.m., HBO) Since we all know what he could do when he was still mortal, it seems that the bad guys had better start running.
Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Matt Damon star in the network premiere of this 2000 theatrical film, "The Legend of Bagger Vance" (8 p.m., ABC). Directed by Robert Redford, it's the story of a mysterious stranger, Bagger Vance, played by Smith, who shows up in the life of Rannulph Junuh, a morose World War I veteran, played by Damon.
"The Trail to Hope Rose" (9 p.m., Hallmark) leads a former armed robber, now determined to abide by the law, to form an alliance with an abused woman. Set in an 1850s mining town, the film features Lou Diamond Phillips, Lee Majors, Ernest Borgnine and Marina Black.
Eccentric great-uncles (Michael Caine and Robert Duvall) get temporary custody of a neglected boy (Haley Joel Osment), and it may turn out that everybody is changed by the experience in "Secondhand Lions" (9 p.m., Starz).
