YOUNGSTOWN -- Guitarist Rick Derringer will be featured in a benefit concert by Youngstown Professional Firefighters Association Local 312, at 8 p.m. July 16 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

TNT scholarships
NILES -- Trumbull New Theatre has awarded $1,600 in scholarships to area students.
Recipients and their awards are: Emma Elliott of Niles, $500; David Crago of Niles, $300; Megan Browning of Lakeview, $200; Alyssa Connelly of Lakeview, $200; Alissa Kovalik of Southington, $200; and Katie Libecco of Warren, $200.
In other news, Dr. J.J. LaPolla was elected president of TNT's board of directors for 2004-05. John Timmins and LaPolla were re-elected to the board, and Jeff Smith was elected to a new three-year term.
Patriotic celebration
JEFFERSON - "Early America Live" will be the theme of a patriotic re-creation of early America to be presented from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. next Sunday at Jefferson Depot Historic Village, East Jefferson Street.
Featured will be such things as school classes, recess games, basic customs, leather crafts, dying and spinning wool, slate cutting, basketry and candle making.
There will be a circuit-rider minister and pump organ music Saturday morning, patriotic music and a gospel hymn sing at 2 p.m. each day, and herb garden tours. Food will be available. Admission is $3. For information, call (440) 858-2261.
Gospel dinner concert
HARTVILLE -- Ivan Parker and Krista will be featured vocalists in a gospel dinner concert to be presented Friday at Hartville Kitchen, 1015 Edison St. NW.

Playhouse meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Playhouse invites all 2003-04 season ticket holders to a business meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 19 at the Playhouse.
Board of directors will be elected, and a vote will be taken on changes to the code of regulations. Members may inspect the code during regular office hours, which are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.
Historical performance
WARREN -- John "Chuck" Chalberg, Ohio Humanities Council visiting scholar, will give a free first-person historical performance as journalist H.L. Mencken at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W.
Chalberg will also focus on the idyllic boyhood of Mencken during a free workshop for youths ages 8 and older at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the library.
At 2 p.m. Wednesday, Chalberg will present a free adult workshop at the John Stark Edwards House and Museum, 303 Monroe St.

Car, bike, truck show
WARREN -- A car, bike and truck show, and a concert by five live bands will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11 at Fordeley Music and Instrument Repair, 4922 Mahoning Ave., as a benefit for United Cerebral Palsy. More than 300 trophies will be awarded.
