Last race: Jeff Gordon overcame his bad luck the previous week and won the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma, Calif., for his third victory of the season. Gordon led 81 of the first 88 laps at Michigan before leaving with engine failure.
Last year: Greg Biffle became the first rookie to win a Nextel Cup race at Daytona with his victory in the Pepsi 400.

Winn-Dixie 250

Last race: Ron Hornaday Jr. rallied from a lap down to win the Alan Kulwicki 250 at The Milwaukee Mile. Hornaday dropped a lap behind when the first caution flag came out while he was in the pits, but rebounded and took the lead for good with seven laps remaining.
Last year: Dale Earnhardt Jr. won his fourth straight Busch Series race, leading all 100 laps of the Winn-Dixie 250.

Last year: Jon Wood started from the back of the field but still earned his first career victory at the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250. The race tied a track record with eight lead changes and set another with seven cautions.

Last race: Sebastien Bourdais became the first multiple winner this season after taking the Grand Prix of Portland on June 20. Bourdais led 85 laps and finished 1.247 seconds ahead of Bruno Junqueira.
Last year: Bourdais crossed the finish line with his car banged up from a late collision to win the Cleveland Grand Prix, which was run at night for the first time in its 22-year history.

Last race: Michael Schumacher's win at the U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis on June 20 was marred by an accident involving his brother, Ralf. Ralf Schumacher spun twice coming out of the last turn on lap 10 and crashed into the outside wall, injuring his back.
Last year: Ralf Schumacher won the French Grand Prix for his second straight victory. Schumacher finished 13.8 seconds ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya in the second consecutive 1-2 finish for Williams-BMW. Michael Schumacher languished in fifth most of the race and finished third.

Argent Mortgage Indy 300

Last race: Dan Wheldon took advantage of a late crash that knocked out Sam Hornish Jr. and Tomas Scheckter, and outdueled Helio Castroneves on the final lap to win the accident-plagued SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond, Va.
Last year: Bryan Herta took the lead with five laps to go and held on to win the Kansas Indy 300 for his first IRL victory. Scott Dixon was denied the circuit's first three-race winning streak since 1998.
