CLASS B Line Drive is playoff bound
Wharmby Sports clinched the regular-season title.
STRUTHERS -- Needing a victory to lock up fourth place and the final playoff spot in the Class B League, the Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy baseball team used the hitting of Matt Madrid and the pitching of Alex Oles and Josh Susany to defeat Livi Steel 9-5 Thursday at Cene Park.
Madrid struck out in the first inning but had a double and two singles thereafter and drove in four runs.
Oles started and went the first 41/3 innings, allowing three earned runs for his third win in four decisions.
Susany came into the game with one out in the fifth inning, the bases loaded for Livi and Koch/Line Drive (17-9) ahead 7-5. He struck out the next two hitters to end the threat. He allowed just one run while striking out five in recording his league-high fifth save.
Steve Orlosky suffered the loss, his first after two victories for Livi (20-7), which ended up as the second seed for the playoffs.
Orlosky and Josh Geric had two RBIs in the four-run Livi first inning.
Wharmby Sports 3, Youngstown Express 1
Wharmby Sports (22-5) wrapped up the regular-season title.
Pat Oman and Jake Gross had two hits each for the winners while Jim Jaskawak went two innings to get his second win of the year.
John Burnich had a double for the Express (2-25).
Mink Financial 14, Rondinelli Tuxedo 9
The teams combined for 27 hits as Mink Financial defeated Rondinelli Tuxedo.
Mink used a seven-run second inning to go ahead 7-1.
Mink, which rapped out 14 hits, scored four times in the seventh inning to go up 14-4 before Rondinelli closed fast.
Astro Falcons 13, Roth Brothers 0
Joe Kohler (2-1) allowed a pair of singles and struck out four.
Robert Shannon homered and Frank Turocy had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs, for the Falcons (20-7).
Roth (5-22) trailed just 4-0 after four innings.
Dave Sugar 4, Youngstown Propane 0
Travis Boyle tossed a two-hit shutout for Dave Sugar Excavating.
With the win, both teams are 9-18.
Boyle (3-3) had four strikeouts and walked three.
Kyran Gardner had two hits for Sugar.
Brandon Wilds (2-2) went the distance, allowing four hits for the loss. Only two of the runs he allowed were earned.
