City surveys sexual behaviors
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Young, rich and educated people in Allegheny County are those most likely to have sex, according to a survey by the county health department.
In the first survey of its kind, researchers questioned 2,008 Pittsburgh-area adults in 2002 about sexual behavior, family planning and HIV/AIDS.
The majority of respondents -- 64 percent -- reported having had sexual intercourse with just one partner during the year. Five percent reported eight to 15 partners, while 19 percent said they had not had any.
Among those reporting abstinence, 51 percent said they made less than $15,000. As income rose, abstinence fell, with 8 percent of those making $75,000 or more abstaining, according to the survey.
The survey indicated those making the most money were more likely to be monogamous, with 82 percent making $75,000 or more saying they remained faithful to one partner. Only 34 percent of those making less than $15,000 reported being monogamous.
