Mich. judge sentencesEminem's ex to jail time
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. -- Eminem's ex-wife was sentenced Wednesday to at least four months in jail for leaving a court-ordered drug treatment program without permission.
Macomb County Circuit Judge Edward Servitto sentenced Kim Mathers to a year in jail, but she only will have to serve 140 days. Then, she will be released to a drug treatment program in Hazel Park.
If Mathers successfully completes the program, the remainder of her jail time is suspended and she will be placed back on probation, said Russ Marlan, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections. If she doesn't complete it, she will have to serve an additional one year in jail and then will be placed back on probation, Marlan said.
Mathers twice has dropped out of a court-ordered drug treatment program. She served some jail time earlier this year after dropping out the first time.
'I was just over-served,'Campbell says in defense
NEW YORK -- Glen Campbell has defended against his drunken-driving charge, claiming he "wasn't really that drunk," but was "just over-served."
Campbell was arrested in November near his Phoenix home after causing a minor traffic accident. He pleaded guilty to extreme drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident and was sentenced to 10 nights in jail.
"I wasn't really that drunk," he told syndicated entertainment TV show "Access Hollywood" in an interview. "I was just over-served."
Campbell also said he didn't remember anything because he was "in a blackout mode." Excerpts of the interview were released Tuesday.
Kidman's single, but isn'tadvertising to mingle
LOS ANGELES -- Being a single mother makes it difficult to find a mate -- even when you're Nicole Kidman.
"I'm hoping to meet someone and be happy with them. But that's not as easy as it sounds," she tells Now magazine. "I'm a 37-year-old woman with two children. Men aren't beating a path to my door.
"I don't want to sound like a woman from a lonely hearts club and I don't want to advertise," she continues. "The children are my priority. I take them around with me -- movies or baseball games or local shows -- and that's not so appealing for any new man on the scene, is it?"
Notable deaths
James Arnold, an original member of The Four Lads singing group, died June 15 of lung cancer, his family said. He was 72. Born in Toronto, Arnold and three school friends formed a quartet that evolved into The Four Lads. The group began performing at clubs in Toronto in 1950 and signed a recording contract in 1952. Their hits included "Standing on the Corner," "Moments to Remember" and "Istanbul."
Liquored-up private eyes, femme fatales quivering in passion -- tenderly! vulnerably! -- babe-crazy mole men, voodoo and vampires: This was the realm of the immensely prolific sex and horror writer Hugh B. Cave, who died Sunday at a hospice in Vero Beach, Fla. He had diabetes and was 93 years old. Since his teenage years in Boston, rarely a week passed without Cave publishing a tale brimming with what one reviewer approvingly called his "vulgar energy."
