NATURE EDUCATION Earth and space

Niles Middle School will have four outdoor learning labs this spring for pupils to study earth and space sciences. The labs will feature the following learning stations:
Wetland station: Activities will include examining water samples; studying animal habitats, including an animal tracking station; identifying plants and categorizing soil types found in wetlands.
Bird Observation Station: Pupils will record the migratory patterns of birds, study the habitats of birds and observe feeding habits.
Weather Station: Pupils will observe and keep records of humidity, temperature, high and low pressure and the impact of weather cycles on the wetlands.
Astronomy Station: A sun dial will be painted on the cement pad outside the school's canopy doors, and pupils will also use a telescope to identify and track celestial objects.
