NHL Lightning cruise past Penguins

Pittsburgh has lost eight straight games.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Darryl Sydor liked what he saw from his new Tampa Bay Lightning teammates.
Sydor had an assist in his Tampa Bay debut Thursday night, and the Lightning beat Pittsburgh 5-1 to hand the Penguins their eighth straight loss.
The defenseman, obtained from Columbus on Tuesday, was part of Tampa Bay's 10th win in 14 games (10-2-0-2).
"It's obvious fun to win," said Sydor, who won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999. "It feels good to help out in any way."
Four Tampa Bay players -- Brad Richards, Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Lukowich -- had a goal and an assist. Pavel Kubina scored his third power-play goal in the past two games.
Richards scored the first of three first-period goals at 4:44. After Kubina's power-play goal at 13:27, Lecavalier made it 3-0 on a breakaway backhander with 4:20 remaining in the period.
"We just have to keep on keeping our focus," Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella said.
Struggling
Losing has become commonplace for the Penguins, who have dropped 14 of 16. The NHL's worst team lost all four games this season against Tampa Bay, being outscored 23-4.
"Obviously we weren't ready, which hasn't been a problem this year at the start of games," Penguins coach Eddie Olczyk said. "Just because you give up a goal doesn't mean that you're not ready. But the mistakes that we made, it's mental preparation."
The Penguins were outshot 32-14. Over the four games in the season series, the Lightning have a 144-64 shot advantage.
St. Louis and Lukowich scored in the second. St. Louis has nine goals -- including five in the past three games -- and 16 points during an eight-game point streak.
Ryan Malone scored on a breakaway at 16:29 of the second to get the Penguins within 5-1.
"As far as our situation, we'll continue to give guys an opportunity and re-evaluate each and every night," Olczyk said.
