Hubbard tops Champion, stays in TAC hunt



Lakeview and Brookfield also earned league wins.
CHAMPION -- After struggling at the foul line for much of the game, the Hubbard High girls basketball team made its free throws in the fourth quarter to defeat Champion 48-34 and remain alive for the Trumbull Athletic Conference title Thursday.
Hubbard (9-4, 7-1 TAC) was just 13-for-27 at the line and led only 31-27 after three quarters.
The Eagles made 9-of-11 foul shots in the final eight minutes, out-scoring the Flashes (5-8, 2-6) 17-7.
Amanda Taylor and Lynle Cornell each scored nine points for the Eagles.
Lauren Seafert scored nine points for the Flashes, who had more goals, 13-12.
Lakeview 56, Newton Falls 39
CORTLAND -- Christina Martin, a 6-foot junior, scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (5-8, 4-4 TAC).
Lindsay Whetzel added 11 points and Britni Morello had 10 for Lakeview.
Lakeview used a 21-point second quarter to take a 34-17 lead at the break.
Kortni Collins scored 13 points and Molly Lenarcic had 10 for the Tigers (2-11, 1-6).
Brookfield 52, LaBrae 38
BROOKFIELD -- Kaitlyn Nasci scored 16 points and Katie Miller added 10 more for the Warriors (8-7, 5-4 TAC).
LaBrae (2-13, 0-9) was led by Maddie D'Orio with nine points.
