'Catwoman' set mishap sends Berry to hospital
'Catwoman' set mishapsends Berry to hospital
LOS ANGELES -- If a Catwoman has nine lives, Halle Berry's using them up fast.
The Oscar-winning, accident-prone actress was at it again over the weekend, requiring a brief stay at a Canadian hospital following a scrape on the set of her would-be summer blockbuster, "Catwoman," reports E!Online.
Berry, 37, was knocked on the noggin Saturday night by either a boom pole (so says Star magazine) or a lighting rig (per the Vancouver Province) while filming a stunt action sequence at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts (both publications agree).
Warner Bros. confirmed the mishap but provided few details outside of describing it as "a minor accident."
The studio said, per routine, Berry was taken to a local hospital where she was treated.
According to reports, Berry required oxygen on the set following the head-vs.-equipment collision. She then was taken to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver for tests and discharged seven hours later, at 3 a.m. Sunday, the Vancouver Province said.
A spokesman at St. Paul's Hospital said he could neither confirm nor deny that Berry was treated there. ("Hope she's all right, though," he added.)
Warner Bros. said Berry was back at work Monday morning.
"Catwoman," starring Berry as the avenging feline-inclined hero and Sharon Stone as her nemesis, is set for a July 30 release.
In November, Berry told The Calgary Sun that she was gung-ho about the stunts required for the comic-book flick.
"People keep reminding me that I just broke my arm earlier this year, and I answer, 'So what?' I love action stuff. It's great fun. It's really exhilarating," she said.
Lewis loses some weight, kicks drug dependence
LAS VEGAS -- Comedian Jerry Lewis has returned home from a rehabilitation center several weeks early, after overcoming a steroid dependence and shedding more than 50 pounds, his publicist said Tuesday.
"He looks fabulous. His face is back to being the regular Jerry Lewis," said Candi Cazau, spokeswoman for Lewis and The Orleans hotel-casino in Las Vegas. "When you see the before and after pictures, it's incredible."
Lewis, who turns 78 in March, was focusing on a strict diet and exercise program and was planning a March 3 performance at The Orleans, Cazau said.
The comedian signed a 20-year contract with the off-Strip hotel-casino shortly before being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He last appeared on stage at The Orleans in April 2001.
In September, Lewis appeared bloated and puffy during the 38th annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, which raised a record $60.5 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
He checked in Oct. 6 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for a managed withdrawal from prednisone, a steroid he was taking for the chronic lung ailment. He was discharged Jan. 16.
'Peaceful future' forecast
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the New Age/Hindu seer, proclaimed Tuesday that a "glorious and peaceful future" is dawning for mankind.
He said his people will bring this about by inviting governments to set up groups of "peace-creating experts" whose practice of transcendental meditation and "yogic flying" will "create coherent collective consciousness."
