BOYS BASKETBALL Shaw propels Chaney over Rayen



Bradley Fletcher had a big fourth quarter to help Liberty.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kelvin Shaw scored a season-high 31 points Wednesday as the Chaney High boys basketball team defeated The Rayen School 76-59 in a City Series game.
Shaw, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, scored 11 points in the second quarter as the Cowboys (3-9, 2-3) took a 35-18 lead at the break.
Chaney's Dominique Peak scored 14 points and Jeremy Tomlin added 13. Ben Pearch had seven points and 12 rebounds and Kory Jackson had seven assists.
Dominique Crosby led the Tigers (3-10, 2-3) with 18 points and Brandon Crosby scored 13 points.
Western Reserve 59,Mineral Ridge 38
MINERAL RIDGE -- Jake Zatchok made four 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (9-4, 7-0) in the Inter-County League game. Nick Sanders added 10 points as 10 players got into the scoring column.
Nick Diana scored 13 points and Vance Keirsey added 10 for the Rams (4-7, 2-4).
Liberty 65, Newton Falls 49
NEWTON FALLS -- Bradley Fletcher scored 12 of his 23 points, including two 3-pointers, in the final quarter for the Leopards (9-2, 3-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Alex Cooper scored 14 of his 20 points in the second quarter but the Tigers (7-5, 3-3) still trailed 31-25 at halftime. Deshawn Crenshaw added 17 points for the Leopards.
Chad Rankin scored 18 points and Andrew Grunder had 10 for Newton Falls.
Lakeview 66, Champion 55
CORTLAND -- The Bulldogs took a 53-35 lead by the end of the third quarter, then held off a late rally by Champion.
Chuck Williams paced Lakeview (9-3, 5-1 TAC) with 11 points while Joey Opalka-Brown and Matt Nero added 10 apiece. Williams had seven rebounds and Opalka-Brown had four assists.
Adam Lantz paced the Golden Flashes (0-11, 0-6) with 23 points. Nick Wildman added 11.
Hubbard 79, Brookfield 42
BROOKFIELD -- The Eagles (5-6, 2-4 TAC) pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring Brookfield 26-11.
Jeff Jablonski led Hubbard with 27 points and Matt Yanik added 16.
The Warriors (8-3, 2-3) were led by Chris Davis with 11 points.
Kennedy Catholic 60,Mercer 46
MERCER -- Sharron Summerville scored 20 points for the Eagles (17-3). David Jackson scored 15 and Shamus Riemold added 13 points.
