PENNSYLVANIA Strong start leads Farrell; Kennedy Catholic cruises
Shenango took a 24-0 lead en route to a win over Neshannock.
FARRELL, Pa. -- Brian Dungee scored 22 points in the first half and ended with 28 points Friday as the Farrell High School boys basketball team defeated Riverside, 67-44.
Behind the strong start of Dungee, the Steelers (8-10, 5-2) established a 40-22 lead at the half.
Kellen Newby added 14 points and Clarence Clay was in with 10 more.
Farrell led 61-32 after three quarters.
Jimmy Morgan scored 12 points for the Panthers.
Kennedy Catholic 66, West Middlesex 57
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Eagles (15-3, 2-0 NCA Class A) took advantage of the Greyhounds cold-shooting spell in the second quarter to take a 34-15 lead at the break.
Held to two points in the second period, West Middlesex was held to a basket in 10 field goal attempts.
Brandon Mirizio of the Eagles made seven of his game-high 22 points during that eight minutes of action.
Shamus Reimold chipped in with 18 points, which included four 3-point baskets. Sharron Summerville finished with 11.
Shenango 64, Neshannock 35
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Wildcats (13-6, 4-3) took a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 24-0 lead before the Lancers (14-5, 4-3) made their first basket.
Shenango, which led 37-11 at the break, made 17 of 26 shots during the first 16 minutes of action, compared to only 5 of 25 for Neshannock.
Steve McNees sparked Shenango with 18 points and he had 10 rebounds and seven assists. Terry Grossetti added 17 points and he grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Wildcats outrebounded the Lancers 42-19.
Bobby Preston led the Lancers with 12 points.
