WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest is struggling after starting the season 11-0, and the Demon Deacons want to stop the slide -- now.
Will Bynum scored 20 points to lead No. 11 Georgia Tech to a 73-66 victory Tuesday night over 10th-ranked Wake Forest, snapping the Demon Deacons' 24-game home winning streak.
It was the Deacons' third straight loss, and center Eric Williams said he and two others had called a players-only meeting for today.
"I don't think the coaches even know about it, but it needs to be done," Williams said. "A lot of things are going to be said, and basically the message will be, 'We need to toughen up.' "
The Deacons (11-3, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) were looking to tie their school record of 25 consecutive victories at Lawrence Joel Coliseum. Instead, they dropped their third straight game, and first at home since Feb. 21, 2002.
"I think it's more disappointing to lose three in a row than it is to lose at home and have the streak broken," Williams said. "Someday, a Wake Forest team will break the home record, but right now we just need to focus on playing good basketball again."
But part of the problem was Bynum, who is just beginning to feel comfortable for Georgia Tech (15-2, 3-1).
Bynum, a transfer from Arizona, became eligible to play for Georgia Tech midway through December. He's gradually worked his way into the offense and was coming off a career-high 25 points in Saturday night's win over Maryland.
"Early on, I was not looking for my shot," he said. "Now I am getting more comfortable out there and the coaching staff has been patient with me to get to this point."
The Yellow Jackets shot 9-for-17 from 3-point range, led by Marvin Lewis, who was 4-for-4 and finished with 14 points. Bynum made three of his five 3-point attempts.
Isma'il Muhammad added 14 points for Georgia Tech, which snapped its five-game losing streak at Wake Forest.
Vytas Danelius led Wake Forest with 13 points. Jamaal Levy and Taron Downey added 11 and Justin Gray scored 10 before fouling out midway through the second half.
No. 9 Kentucky 69, Tennessee 68, OT
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Chuck Hayes scored off his own miss with 3:49 left in overtime to lead Kentucky past Tennessee.
Erik Daniels had 19 points and Hayes added 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Wildcats (12-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference), who had a scare after their 19-game SEC regular-season winning streak was ended Saturday by Georgia.
Seton Hall 74, No. 13 Syracuse 67
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Kelly Whitney had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead Seton Hall over Syracuse, snapping a number of streaks for both teams.
The Pirates (12-4, 2-2 Big East) had lost their last two games and their last five to Syracuse. The loss ended the 13-game winning streak for Syracuse (13-2, 3-1).
No. 16 Texas 75, Missouri 69, OT
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Royal Ivey scored 10 of his career-high 24 points in overtime to lead Texas over Missouri -- the Longhorns' second straight narrow escape.
Rickey Paulding had 20 points for Missouri (7-7, 2-2 Big 12), but missed five free throws in the final four minutes of regulation and overtime.
Women
AMES, Iowa -- Freshman Lyndsey Medders scored 20 points, and Iowa State upset a ranked team for the second time in seven days, beating No. 15 Oklahoma 69-51 on Tuesday night.
No. 18 Miami 86, Providence 67
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Yolanda McCormick scored 24 points and Chanivia Broussard added 20 to help Miami beat Providence and take sole possession of first place in the Big East Conference.
