YOUNGSTOWN -- For the second time, Felix V. Gasior Jr. has to bury a son who died a violent death.
"My wife's gone, two boys are gone. There's just one son, a daughter and the dog left," Gasior said today at his Struthers home. "I don't think it's settled in yet."
On Tuesday, Gasior last spoke to his youngest son, 23-year-old Jason W. Gasior, around 1:30 p.m. The grieving father said he had called to remind his son about getting his driver's license reinstated.
Less than two hours later, a friend found Jason Gasior shot to death in the bed of his upstairs apartment at 1938 E. Midlothian Boulevard.
The Struthers High School graduate had been shot in the head and body.
A gun was found under his head, next to his hand, and three spent casings and one live round were on the bedroom floor.
Drugs and paraphernalia
Police found a cigar box with syringes and steroids on the kitchen table, next to a scale with cocaine residue and a spoon with powdered cocaine.
In a cabinet, officers found a plastic bag of crack, a plastic bag of marijuana and miscellaneous pills.
"I don't know if he used drugs or what was going on," the victim's 62-year-old father said. "It's hard. It's hard. My wife, Margie, died about three years ago. I'm still trying to get over that."
In August 1985, 21-year-old Felix V. Gasior III, who was hearing impaired, died in a house fire on Poland Avenue in Struthers.
Gasior said today that his son Jason had a handgun because he'd been threatened about a week ago. "He called and I flew up there, but they were gone."
Gasior described his son as "the best," someone who would do anything for his friends and family. Gasior said his son leaves a little girl.
Jason Gasior sold cars and had Gasior Hauling, his father said. A red dump truck is parked outside his father's State Street home.
Man seen leaving
Gasior said police have a description of a man seen leaving his son's apartment after the shooting.
"It matches the description of the kid I'm thinking of who was there last week."
Gasior, shaking his head, said: "Why didn't they just beat the s--- out of him? Put him in the hospital? Why shoot him?"
The father said he suspects the slaying was over a woman.
