Pitt suffers first loss, 68-65, against No. 4 Connecticut



The Panthers saw their 18-game winning streak snapped by the Huskies.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Denham Brown scored 20 points to lead fourth-ranked Connecticut to a 68-65 victory over No. 8 Pittsburgh Monday night, leaving three unbeaten teams in Division I.
The Huskies (15-2, 3-0 Big East) bounced back from Saturday's 68-65 loss at North Carolina that knocked them from the No. 1 spot they held in the rankings for the previous five weeks.
Taliek Brown scored in the lane with 1 minute, 44 seconds remaining to give Connecticut the lead for good at 64-63.
Connecticut won despite subpar games by preseason All-Americans Ben Gordon and Emerka Okafor.
Gordon finished with 16 points, while Okafor had 11 -- snapping his streak of five straight games with 20 or more -- seven rebounds and five blocks. Brown added eight points and eight assists for the Huskies.
Karl Krauser had a career-high 24 points for the Panthers (18-1, 4-1). It was the first loss for first-year coach Jamie Dixon, off to the best start for a rookie head coach since Indiana State's Bill Hodges won his first 33 games in 1978-79.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Andre Emmett scored 21 points as Texas Tech (15-2, 3-0 Big 12) won its 11th straight game, its longest under coach Bob Knight.
The Sooners (10-4, 0-3) dropped their fourth straight game, three of which have been by at least 20 points.
Detroit 75, Cleveland St. 53
CLEVELAND -- Elijah Warren scored 37 points on 15-for-19 shooting, as Detroit handed Cleveland State its 11th straight loss.
Warren made 6-of-9 shots from 3-point range, including two to cap a 15-4 run that gave the Titans (9-7, 3-3 Horizon League) a 24-10 lead with 9:27 remaining in the first half.
The Vikings (4-13, 0-6) pulled within 25-21, but Detroit closed the first half on a 10-3 surge for a 35-24 lead. Cleveland State got no closer than nine points in the second half.
Willie Wallace added 12 points for the Titans. Omari Westley led Cleveland State with 20 points and Jermaine Robinson had 19.
Providence 89, Loyola (Ill.) 59
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Chris Anrin scored 16 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Providence.
Tuukka Kotti added 13 for Providence (11-3), and Donnie McGrath scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Dwight Brewington added 10 for the Friars, whose 17 3-pointers were a school record.
Paul McMillan led the scoring for Loyola (6-10) with 16 points. Majak Kou added 14, including four 3-pointers.
Toledo 85, E. Michigan 69
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Keith Triplett and Sammy Villegas led four Toledo players in double figures with 17 points each.
Justin Ingram scored 15 points and Florentino Valencia added 13 points for the Rockets (12-3, 6-1 Mid-American Conference). JaQuan Hart led the Eagles (6-8, 1-5) with 19 points while John Bowler added 17 points and nine rebounds.
