Mazzante sets Big Ten record

The Penn State standout became the conference's all-time leading scorer.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Kelly Mazzante broke the Big Ten women's career scoring record Sunday, finishing with 24 points in No. 8 Penn State's 79-64 victory over Illinois.
Mazzante converted two free throws in the first half to pass the previous record of 2,578 points, set by Ohio State's Katie Smith in 1996. Mazzante raised her career scoring total to 2,594 points.
Tanisha Wright and Ashli Schwab each scored 12 for the Lady Lions (13-3, 6-0 Big Ten), who have won six straight.
Angelina Williams scored 16 of her 24 points in the first half for Illinois (7-10, 1-5). Janelle Hughes and Cindy Dallas each added 10.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Alana Beard overcame a miserable shooting night by scoring eight straight points in a late 12-4 run as Duke won its 48th consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference game.
Beard made only three of her first 15 shots, but she made three in a row and added two free throws as the Blue Devils (14-1, 5-0 ACC) turned a tie game into a 53-45 lead with 3:38 remaining.
Beard finished with 24 points and Monique Currie and Mistie Bass had 10 each for Duke. Beard also had six rebounds and four blocks.
LaTonya Blue led Virginia (8-8, 2-3) with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Shereka Wright had 24 points and 10 rebounds as Purdue (14-2, 4-1 Big Ten) beat previously unbeaten Minnesota.
The Gophers (15-1, 4-1 Big Ten) entered the game as the only undefeated team in Division I.
Lindsay Whalen, the nation's second-leading scorer with a 23-point average, finished with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Janel McCarville had 18 points for Minnesota.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Shyra Ely scored 18 points and Ashley Robinson added 12, helping the No. 5 Lady Vols (14-1, 4-0 SEC) beat the Crimson Tide for the 27th straight time.
Monique Bivins led the Tide (10-6, 2-1) with 11 points and Navonda Moore had 10.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Tashia Morehead had career highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds and Bernice Mosby added 18 points, as Florida ended the nation's second-longest home winning streak at 23 games.
Danielle Santos scored 16 points for Florida (12-5, 2-2 SEC).
Cori Chambers and Alexis Kendrick each scored 15 points for Georgia (13-4, 2-2).

Seimone Augustus had 20 points for LSU (15-2, 3-0 SEC).

BOULDER, Colo. -- Tera Bjorklund overcame a hyperextended right knee and scored 21 points as No. 15 Colorado beat Missouri at home for the 14th straight time.
Kate Fagan added 16 points for Colorado (14-2, 3-1 Big 12).
Evan Unrau had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Missouri (9-6, 0-4).

TAMPA, Fla. -- Jenni Dant scored 19 points and Khara Smith added 18 as No. 17 DePaul won its eighth straight game.
Ashley Luke and Charlene Smith each added 16 for the Blue Demons (16-1, 4-0 Conference USA).

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Chandi Jones banked in a jump shot with 29 seconds left, leading Houston to the upset of No. 18 Texas Christian.
Jones finished with a game-high 32 points. Sancho Lyttle finished with 12 points for Houston (14-2, 3-0 Conference USA).
Vanderbilt 67, No. 20 Auburn 63
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Abi Ramsey scored 20 points and Hillary Hager had 18 to lead Vanderbilt (14-2, 2-1 SEC).
Natasha Brackett scored 18 points to lead Auburn (13-4, 1-2) before fouling out, while Le'Coe Willingham and Nicole Louden each added 14.
No. 25 Michigan St. 67, Michigan 33
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Liz Shimek scored 14 points and Michigan State held Michigan without a basket for the first 13:25 of the second half.
Michigan's Jennifer Smith was held to seven points, 15.1 below her average.
Lindsay Bowen also had 14 points for Michigan State (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten).
