AREA COLLEGES Accurate Allegheny notches NCAC decision over Oberlin



Slippery Rock battled Clarion, the nation's sixth-ranked team, before falling.
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) in the second half of an 82-48 victory over visiting Oberlin Wednesday.
The Gators improved to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Sophomore Matt Majzlik scored 19 points for Allegheny, on 9-of-13 shooting. Matt Magnusen had 16 points and Chase McKim added 11.
Bosko Tomasevic led Oberlin (4-11, 0-7) with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Wooster 95, Hiram 50
WOOSTER -- Tom Port and Jeff Stevens scored 15 points each to lead Wooster.
Matt Schlingman had 12 points and Rodney Mitchell added 10 points for the Fighting Scots (13-2, 6-1 NCAC).
A.J. White had 13 points for Hiram (4-12, 2-5) and was the only Terrier in double figures.
Mount Union 72, John Carroll 59
ALLIANCE -- Brad Gerald scored 11 points for the Purple Raiders (11-5, 6-3 Ohio Athletic Conference).
John Carroll, which had won four straight, got 14 points from David Gibbons.
W & amp; J 75, Thiel 68
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- D.J. Gambridge had 17 points and 10 rebounds, but the Tomcats were hurt by a 54-percent performance at the foul line.
Daryl Moore finished with 12 points and six rebounds for Thiel (6-11, 0-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference), while freshman guard Chris Kwolek (Mohawk) had 12 points and three assists.
Washington & amp; Jefferson (7-9, 1-1) was led by Jon Koch, who had a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Chris Cannon finished with 16 points, while Steve Button added 12 points and five rebounds.
Clarion 64, Slippery Rock 58
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Bill Johnson had 16 points as The Rock battled the nation's sixth-ranked team.
Glenn Reepmeyer added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while senior guard Dave Johnson had 11 points and five rebounds for The Rock (4-13, 1-2 PSAC-West).
Bethany 82, Waynesburg 74
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Mike Drahos, the leading scorer in the PAC, scored 33 points on 10-of-12 shooting to lead Bethany.
Drahos was 3-for-3 on 3-point shots and 10-of-10 at the foul line.
Jim Deep added 20 points for the Bison (11-4, 2-0 PAC).
Mike King led Waynesburg (6-9, 1-1) with 21 points. Jeff Nero (New Castle Union) added 17 points.
Women
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Twelve players scored points as Allegheny used a strong second half to pin a 77-36 setback on Hiram in a NCAC game.
Caitlin Murtagh scored 13 points to pace Allegheny (8-9, 6-2), which led 34-23 at the half.
Hiram (3-12, 0-7) was led by Jessica Harris with 12 points and as many rebounds.
Clarion 71, Slippery Rock 54
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Heather Cigich collected 24 points and 10 rebounds for Clarion (9-7, 1-1 PSAC-West). The Rock (8-9, 1-2) was paced by Erin Frankovich with 17 points.
John Carroll 64, Mount Union 52
ALLIANCE -- Julie Duffy led John Carroll (9-7, 5-4 OAC) with 13 points.
Ashley Bourdeau hit for 23 points for the Purple Raiders (4-12, 1-8).
Bethany 67, Waynesburg 58
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Nikki Babik finished with a game-high 15 points to lead Bethany (12-4, 2-0 PAC).
Kelley Richardson, the PAC's leading scorer and rebounder, had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Trista Murphy led Waynesburg (6-6, 0-2) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Katie Lewandowski and Rachel Dillon added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
W & amp; J 59, Thiel 48
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Washington & amp; Jefferson's Amanda Stanonik scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the first half.
Stanonik also had a game-high nine rebounds, while Lauren Slampak finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Presidents (10-3, 2-0 PAC).
Fontella Jones (Farrell) had 11 points and seven rebounds for Thiel (5-11, 0-2). Kerry Gutherie had 11 points and five rebounds, while Adrienne Mowry (Struthers) added eight points and six rebounds.
