Placing wreath at tomb
Bruce E. Williams of Girard, a Korean War Navy veteran, recently was chosen by the Lordstown GM Retirees and United Autoworkers Local 1112's Community Action Program to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C.
Williams, 72, said it was a great honor to place a wreath at the tomb. He served in the Navy from 1952-56 aboard the USS Manchester (CL83), a light cruiser. He left the Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd class gunners mate, and retired in 1992 from the GM Assembly Plant, where he was a spot welder in the body shop.
Marine For Life Web site
The Marine Corps' Marine For Life program, which helps recently separated, honorably discharged Marines transition from active duty status and return to local communities in search of jobs, schools and homes, has established a new Web site, www.M4L.usmc.mil.
The Hometown Link for Northern Ohio is one of about 100 M4L sites. Businesses and organizations can become part of the M4L network be registering online at www.M4L.usmc.mil or calling (216) 214-7362.
Creating a tribute CD
VIENNA -- Mathews High School students in the school's On Your Own class, in which participants do service projects, are creating a tribute CD to community members and Mathews graduates who are serving in the military.
The tribute will include pictures of and information about local military men and women, as well as written and oral comments by the students, said project director, Connie David. The CD will be produced by the school's Technology Education Department.
The students are inviting people to submit names and pictures of military men and women from the Mathews School District for inclusion in the CD by Friday. They should also send the serviceman's address, branch of service, and high school graduation date, if applicable, to Mathews High School, 4429 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna 44473, in care of Connie David, or contact Vera Gates at (330) 394-1138.
ROTC GRAD COMMISSIONED
Second lieutenant
Amber Rae Sanchez, daughter of Reinaldo Sanchez and Wildemina Ocasio Sanchez, of Boardman, recently was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
Commissioning 2nd Lt. Sanchez was her sister, 1st Lt. Eva Rae Sanchez, who also is in the Air Force.
Second Lt. Sanchez received her commission through Ohio State University's ROTC (Detachment 645) program. She received her bachelor's degree from OSU in international studies.
While in the ROTC program, 2nd Lt. Sanchez held numerous positions, including logistics group commander and public affairs squadron commander. Her awards included cadet of the month (three times) and superior performer in field training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas.
She will be assigned to Ramstein Air Base in Germany as a logistics readiness officer. She's a 1999 Boardman High School graduate.

On USS Gettysburg
Several area residents are aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, part of the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, as part of America's operations in the war on terrorism. They include:
Navy Lt. j.g. Thomas J. Farina, son of Robin and Thomas J. Farina of Boardman. Farina is a 1997 graduate of Boardman High School and a 2001 graduate of Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Kristopher J. Hall, son of Christola Hall of New Castle, Pa., and a 2000 graduate of New Castle High School.
Back home in New Castle
Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Patrick L. Fellion has been demobilized and has returned to New Castle, Pa. The sergeant is an instructor with 19 years of military service. He is the son of Robert and Mary Fellion of New Castle. Fellion graduated in 1979 from New Castle High School, and received an associate degree in 1996 from ITT Technical Institute, Youngstown.
Recalled to active duty
Army Reserve Spec. Martin E. Mounts has been recalled to active duty to support the missions of Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. He is assigned to the 423rd Quartermaster Battalion, Lordstown. His parents are Robert D. and Georgia A. Mounts of Champion, and Mounts is a 2001 graduate of Champion High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Raul E. Ortiz II has been recalled to active duty to support the missions of Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. He is a utilities equipment repairer with the 958th Maintenance Detachment, Canton. He is the son of Susana Alvarado of Campbell, and is a 2002 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

Army Pfc. Steven M. Robich graduated from the 12-week multichannel transmission systems operator-maintainer course at Fort Gordon, Ga. Robich is the son of Terri L. Blasko and Robin S. Robich, both of Hermitage, Pa. He is a 2002 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

Army Pvt. Jason R. Grosseibl graduated from the eight-week petroleum officer course at Fort Lee, Va. Grosseibl is the son of H.R. and Etta R. Grosseibl of Hubbard, and a 2003 graduate of Hubbard High School.

Army Pvt. Stephanie N. Weddle graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va. She is the daughter of Bonnie L. Cottrell and Duane A. Weddle, both of Leavittsburg. Weddle is a 2003 graduate of LaBrae High School, Leavittsburg.

Army Pvt. Brandon L. Perry graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va. He is the son of James Perry of Youngstown, and graduated in 2000 from Youngstown Chaney High School.
