REGION Port guides Wooster to another NCAC title



The Fighting Scots have won two straight and nine overall.
SPRINGFIELD -- Second-seeded Wooster defeated top-seeded Wittenberg, 100-71, to claim its second straight, and ninth overall, North Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament title Saturday.
Sophomore forward Tom Port scored 22 points to lead the Fighting Scots. He had 17, staking Wooster to a 47-30 halftime lead.
Port shot 7-for-11 from the floor, including 4-of-6 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. He was 4-for-4 at the free throw line and was named Al Van Wie Award winner as the tournament's most valuable player.
Senior guard Rodney Mitchell and junior forward Blake Mealer joined Port in receiving tournament honors. They scored 19 and 10 points, respectively.
Peter Walker paced Wittenberg with 19 points.
Women
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Bethany won its sixth PAC tournament championship in the last eight years, defeating Washington and Jefferson 83-74.
The win was the 18th in a row for Bethany (23-4), which set a school record for wins in a season.
The Bison shot 12-of-29 on 3-pointers. Freshman guard Sherelle Vossen was 5-of-7 while Nikki Babik was 4-of-11. Renee Shehady, who played all 40 minutes at point guard, went 2-of-5 from 3-point range and scored a season-high 13 points while dishing out four assists for Bethany.
Kelley Richardson scored a team-high 22 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Washington & amp; Jefferson's (18-8) Leigh Sulkowski led all scorers with 31 points on 11-of-25 shooting, including 5-of-16 from 3-point range.
Wilmington 73, Otterbein 54
WILMINGTON -- Wilmington advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in three years and for the fourth time in five seasons by winning the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship game.
Tara Rausch scored a game-high 19 points with 20 rebounds for the Quakers (21-6).
Otterbein (23-5) was led by Diana Esterkamp, who scored 13 points.
