Akron player suspended
AKRON -- Senior Johnny Hollingsworth has been suspended for the remainder of the season for violating the athletics department's academic policy, coach Dan Hipsher said.
The suspension is not related to a NCAA eligibility issue, Hipsher said.
"Being a member of the Akron basketball program means taking care of business in the classroom," Hipsher said.
Hollingsworth led the Zips in assists (4.5 per game) and steals (1.6 per game). He was also the team's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 7.3 points per game.
Hollingsworth, a Cincinnati native, transferred to Akron before the 2002-03 season after spending his freshman and sophomore seasons at Wabash Valley Junior College in Illinois.
