LIBERTY Olympic hockey gold medalist to address Chamber meeting

The event will honor three community leaders.
LIBERTY -- Hockey great Mike Eruzione, best known for leading the 1980 United States hockey team to its gold-medal Olympic victory, will be keynote speaker for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber's annual membership meeting.
Set for 6 p.m. March 24 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, the theme for the night is "Champions in Sports & amp; Spirit."
In keeping with tradition, the Chamber will recognize these three community leaders for their commitment to the Mahoning Valley:
UClarence R. Smith Jr., chairman of the board at Compco Industries, will receive the William G. Lyden Jr. Spirit of the Valley Award.
URobert E. Hoy, vice president of Paige & amp; Byrnes Insurance Agency, will receive the Donald Cagigas Spirit of the Chamber Award.
UState Rep. Sylvester Patton Jr. of Youngstown, D-60th, will be honored with the 2004 Chairman's Political Achievement Award.
Now recognized as a motivational speaker, Eruzione's performance in a crucial game against the legendary Russian hockey team in 1980 inspired the feature film "Miracle," which is now playing at area theaters.
Eruzione was captain of the victorious U.S. team and scored the winning goal in the game, a moment Sports Illustrated magazine voted the "No. 1 sports moment of the century" in 1999.
A Massachusetts native, Eruzione is director of development for athletics at Boston University.
