Fabian Basabe won't be getting hitched any time soon. The narcissistic pretty boy and reported heir to an Ecuadorean fortune -- who was seen serenading young Barbara Bush during Gotham's Fashion Week -- has been banned from the White House. According to New York magazine, he's not welcome in the Bush household because Laura Bush was furious when she saw a New York Daily News pic of her 21-year-old daughter dressed in a cleavage-baring blouse straddling Basabe's leg at a party.
There she is:Greta Van Susteren
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Greta Van Susteren, who helped pick Miss Florida Ericka Dunlap as Miss America last year, is joining the famous beauty pageant in another capacity. Van Susteren, host of Fox News' "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren," has joined the Miss America Organization's board of directors, pageant officials announced Thursday.
"Greta's experience, not only as an attorney, but as a journalist who brings a global framework of knowledge and expertise in politics and news, will prove most valuable as we grow this organization," said Stephen Fuhs, chairman of the Miss America board.
Also named to the board was Miss America 1964, Donna Axum Whitworth.
Barry Pepper to playEarnhardt in ESPN movie
BRISTOL, Conn. -- Barry Pepper will star as auto racing star Dale Earnhardt in "3," a made-for-TV movie by ESPN, set to debut in December. He also will serve as co-executive producer.
Pepper, who played the role of Roger Maris in the HBO feature "61," said Earnhardt "captured my fascination and the hearts of millions of NASCAR fans across America."
"The opportunity to produce this with them is an aspiring filmmaker's dream come true," he said.
ESPN also begins production in spring on a movie about baseball's Pete Rose. The network already has done films on basketball coach Bob Knight and football coach Bear Bryant.
Hollywood groupwill honor Valenti
LOS ANGELES -- Jack Valenti, head of the Hollywood trade group that oversees the movie-ratings system, received the American Film Institute's Charlton Heston Award Thursday for his contributions to the industry.
Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America and a founding board member of AFI, was the second recipient of the Heston award, which the group instituted last year. Heston himself was the first to receive the honor.
The Heston award is presented for efforts to promote the film and TV industry and the AFI itself.
"Jack Valenti is the eloquent voice of the film community to the world and a tireless supporter of AFI," said Howard Stringer, the institute's board chairman. "He has served AFI through decades of historic and cultural change in the art form."
