AREA COLLEGE BASKETBALL Mount Union wins again to gain OAC final



Mount Union spilled Otterbein to advance against John Carroll.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Rob Paulauskas scored 18 points to lead Mount Union to another upset win in the Ohio Athletic Conference basketball tournament, as the Purple Raiders posted a 82-73 decision over Otterbein in the semifinals on Friday night.
Kyle Karpinski added 17 points, Curtis Stevens scored 16 and Brett Hershberger had 12 for sixth-seeded Mount Union (18-9), which will play tournament host and top seed John Carroll for the championship today at 7:30 p.m.
Mount Union, which also upset third-seeded Baldwin-Wallace in the quarterfinals, shot 55.6 from the floor (30-of-54) and made 8-of-17 attempts from 3-point range.
Tyler Ousley and Aaron Minister led the second-seeded Cardinals (20-7) with 15 points apiece.
John Carroll 79, Ohio Northern 62
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Brandon Mimes scored 18 points off the bench to lead John Carroll. The Blue Streaks are 21-5.
Jim Conrad led the fourth-seeded Polar Bears (19-8) with 20 points.
Mimes' performance helped John Carroll's bench outscore Ohio Northern's reserves 50-8.
St. Vincent 71, Geneva 68
LATROBE, Pa. -- Kenny Roberts led St. Vincent (23-6) with 28 points in the American Mideast Conference tournament game.
For Geneva (16-14), Stefan Grundberg scored 22 points.
Women
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Lauren Slampak hit a game-winning jumper with 1.3 seconds to play, breaking a 53-53 tie and lifting Washington & amp; Jefferson to a 55-53 win over Westminster College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament semifinal.
W & amp;J (18-7), the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will play at Bethany today for the PAC title.
Westminster (15-10) staged a furious rally, finally tying the game at 53-53 in the final minute on a 3-pointer by junior guard Alyson Gasper.
Junior forward Erica Tallo collected 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds (her 14th double-double in 25 games this season), while adding a team-high five assists.
Freshman guard Desiree Sterling, a graduate of Newton Falls High School, added 12 points in the loss.
Bethany 59, Grove City 55
BETHANY, W.Va. -- A jumper by Kelley Richardson with 40 seconds on the clock turned out to be the winning points in the PAC Tournament semifinal game.
A lay-up by Misty Wadowsky gave Grove City a 54-53 lead with 1:42 remaining in the game.
Three of Grove City's leading scorers, Sandy O'Keefe, Abby Moose (Mercer High) and Rachel Romance, all fouled out in the final minutes and the team struggled to find any offense without them.
Ohio Dominican 67, Geneva 51
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Amanda Lewis and Becky Richter each scored 18 points for the winners (20-8) in the AMC tournament.
Jen Rawding led Geneva (19-10) with 15 points.
