Route 164 receives emergency patching

LISBON -- Workers from Superior Paving & amp; Minerals Inc. worked about 70 hours and used 300 tons of patch material to repair pavement on state Route 164, officials of the Ohio Department of Transportation said.
The North Canton contractor was scheduled to repair the highway this summer but made temporary repairs last week because of the severe deterioration of the pavement. ODOT officials said the pavement on the nearly 15-mile stretch between Lisbon and Salineville is 15 years old.
Tom Corey of ODOT's Columbiana County office in Lisbon said the heavy rains through the spring and summer in 2003 followed by a winter of extremely low temperatures caused the pavement to break down, resulting in "a lot of serious potholes" all along the highway. He said the company is scheduled to repave the highway as soon as weather permits.
Superior Paving & amp; Minerals Inc. has a $1.4 million contract to pave state Route 164 and portions of state Route 154 and state Route 518. The winding, two-lane highways are in Center, Wayne and Washington townships.
