INDY RACING LEAGUE
Toyota Indy 300
Schedule: Saturday, qualifying, 1:15 p.m.; Sunday, race (ESPN, 2 p.m.).
Track: Homestead-Miami Speedway (oval, 1.5 miles, 18-degree banking at bottom, 19-degree banking in middle, 20-degree banking at top).
Race distance: 300 miles, 200 laps.
Last year: Scott Dixon became just the third driver to win in his first IRL start by taking the Toyota Indy 300. Buzz Calkins did it in the IRL's inaugural race in 1996 followed by Juan Montoya four years later.
Fast facts: All four turns at Homestead have been rebuilt since last season, creating three lanes for racing. All bankings last season were six degrees. ... Sarah Fisher's second-place finish in the 2001 race was the highest of any female driver in a major racing series. But Fisher is not expected to compete this weekend despite signing with Kelley Racing on a part-time basis.

Schedule: Today, qualifying, 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, qualifying, 2:30 p.m. (ESPN2, 4:30 p.m., tape); Sunday, eliminations, 2 p.m. (ESPN2, 10 p.m., tape).
Track: Pomona (Calif.) Raceway.
Last year: Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon became the first repeat winner at the Winternationals, while Tony Pedregon (Funny Car) and Warren Johnson (Pro Stock) also won at the season-opening event.
