Ex-mayor guilty of DUI

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (AP) -- A former mayor of the Cleveland suburb of Brook Park was found guilty of driving drunk. Tom Coyne, chairman of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, pleaded no contest to a charge of driving under the influence Wednesday.
Police said Coyne, 54, refused to take a breath-alcohol test when officers stopped him Sept. 12 after noticing that his car was weaving.
"I was guilty of driving at 2 a.m. through Westlake," Coyne said. "I was guilty of driving an $85,000 Jaguar. I was followed for four miles and stopped because I was Tom Coyne."
A trial was to start Wednesday, but Coyne said he decided not to proceed with it to "get this over with."
Municipal Judge Donna Congeni Fitzsimmons ordered Coyne to take a second alcohol assessment before she sentences him.
