Court date set for third suspect in Web sting

EAST PALESTINE -- A 38-year-old man who police say planned to meet a 15-year-old girl for a NASCAR date will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police arrested Lonzo Stoover of Attica, Ohio, around 5 p.m. Sunday when he arrived in New Waterford. The 15-year-old New Waterford girl Stoover thought he had made a date with in an Internet chat room was actually New Waterford Police Chief Dan Haueter, the chief said.
Stoover will appear in Columbiana County Municipal Court in East Palestine. He is the third suspect in a month caught by Haueter in an Internet sting.
Stoover is charged with attempted sexual conduct with a minor and is being held in the Columbiana County Jail on $500,000 bond.
Stoover was looking for a date with a young girl and wanted to watch Sunday's NASCAR race, Haueter said. Stoover brought soft drinks and condoms as Haueter requested.
Haueter said Stoover left a 13-year-old at home and took a younger child to a baby sitter to make the trip.
"He had talked to me before and I almost forgot about him," Haueter said. "He told me he was looking for a young girl and asked if my mom was home. I told him no, and he said, 'So why aren't we watching the race together?' I told him I didn't know why, and he said, 'because I didn't get an invite.'"
Haueter said he was checking the chat room Sunday to see if anyone was talking about police making arrests when Stoover recognized his screen name and started talking to him.
