AREA COLLEGES Geneva qualifies with win



The Golden Tornadoes needed the 91-65 win to get into the tournament.
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva needed a win to qualify for the American Mideast Conference tournament and the Golden Tornadoes won in style, cruising to a 91-65 victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) Saturday.
Geneva (15-13, 7-7 AMC North) will open the AMC tournament Tuesday at Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Notre Dame finished 8-22, 3-11.
Geneva led 52-36 at halftime and scored 13 of the first 17 points of the second half for a 67-40 lead.
Terrance Ward scored a game-high 17 points for the Golden Tornadoes, while Stefan Grundberg added 16 points. Sophomore Chad Mraz scored 12 points and added a game-high eight assists.
Notre Dame was led by Paul Benjamin's 10 points.
Waynesburg 82, Thiel 77
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The teams will have a rematch Tuesday in the first round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament.
Phil McLaughlin led the Yellow Jackets (10-15, 4-6 PAC) with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Beau Wilson scored 20 points and Mike King added 18.
Ryan Singleton led Thiel (9-16, 3-7) with 22 points, a career high. Stephen Laird added 15 points.
Indiana 89, Slippery Rock 73
INDIANA, Pa. -- Junior guard Jajuan Davis scored a team-high 22 points to lead The Rock scoring attack in their loss.
Bill Johnson had 12 points and Jerome Smalls scored 10 points and had a team-high nine rebounds for Slippery Rock (7-18, 4-6), which remained tied for fourth place in the PSAC West.
Women
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Waynesburg won its first Presidents' Athletic Conference game of the season Saturday, surviving Thiel's second-half comeback, 64-54.
Thiel (6-19, 1-9 PAC) had three players in double figures: Nicole Valentino and Laura Simonetti scored 12 apiece and Kerry Gutherie added 11.
Waynesburg (9-13, 1-9 PAC) was led by Candice Eyerman with 19 points and Ashley Urban with 18.
