MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE Kent St. wins 10th straight; Drake upends Akron in OT



The Golden Flashes set a league record with six straight 20-win seasons.

KENT -- Jason Edwin scored 25 points to lead Kent State to its 10th consecutive victory, 70-55 over Creighton on Saturday, and both teams tried to impress NCAA tournament officials who'll choose at-large squads.
Scott Cutley scored eight of his nine points in a 19-0 Kent State run that gave the Golden Flashes a 60-42 lead with 9:12 to play.
Kent State (20-3) became the first Mid-American Conference school to win 20 games in six consecutive seasons.
Creighton (19-5), which opened the season with 12 straight victories, has lost three of five since Feb. 7.
Mike Grimes led Creighton with 13 points, including four in a 10-2 run that brought the Bluejays within 62-42 with 3:30 to play.
Eric Haut finished with 18 points for Kent State.
Drake 82, Akron 78, OT
AKRON -- Lonnie Randolph scored 19 points and Nick Grant added 18 to lead Drake.
Chaun Brooks added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who blew a 67-56 lead with 5:07 remaining in regulation.
Dru Joyce finished with 23 points and made 6-of-12 attempts from 3-point range. Rick McFadden had 15 points and Jeremiah Wood added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Akron.
Cent. Michigan 90, Evansville 73
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan's Kevin Nelson scored a career-high 27 points.
The Chippewas (5-20) built a 52-29 halftime lead as they shot 56 percent in the first half and the Purple Aces (5-19) went the final 7:23 of the period without hitting a field goal.
Gerrit Brigitha finished with 20 points for Central Michigan, while T.J. Meerman scored 11 points off the bench.
Clint Cuffle led Evansville with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Bradley Strickland and Eric Ottens each added 10 points.
W. Michigan 83, Charleston 78, OT
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Reggie Berry scored five of his 10 points in overtime and Ben Reed hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to lead Western Michigan.
Mike Williams led Western Michigan (20-3) with 27 points and eight of the Broncos' 44 rebounds.
Thomas Mobley led four Charleston (18-7) players in double figures with 18 points.
Miami (Ohio) 75,SW Missouri St. 66
OXFORD -- Juby Johnson scored 24 points and Miami Ohio held Southwest Missouri State to 16 percent shooting in the first half.
Josh Hausfeld had 16 points for the RedHawks (15-8), while Merrill Andrews scored 19 points for the Bears (16-11).
Western Kentucky 87, Marshall 66
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Nigel Dixon had 29 points and 16 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky (14-11).
A.W. Hamilton led Marshall (9-14) with 16 points. Marvin Black had 13 and Enoch Bunch added 11.
Nevada 60, Toledo 58
RENO, Nev. -- Garry Hill-Thomas scored 18 points and tipped in the winning basket as time expired, keeping Nevada undefeated at home this season. Kevinn Pinkey added 13 points and 12 rebounds and Kirk Snyder 10 points for the Wolf Pack (17-8), who are 13-0 at home.
Toledo's Sammy Villegas tied the score 58-all on a 3-pointer with 7.5 seconds remaining. Villegas finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
