Students' tobacco summit involves teens from four counties

WARREN -- MCAT East End Tobacco Prevention and Control Coalition is sponsoring the third annual Active Students Against Tobacco summit from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kent State University Trumbull Campus, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W.
MCAT is an acronym for the participating counties of Mahoning, Columbiana, Ashtabula and Trumbull counties.
High school students from the four counties will educate peers on the damaging health effects of tobacco use, environmental tobacco smoke, and smokeless tobacco. There also will be interactive breakout sessions to teach teens techniques to be anti-tobacco advocates.
Teens interested in attending should contact Nick Cascarelli at (300) 270-2855, ext. 141. There is no cost for registration, and lunch will be provided for youths who attend.
The coalition says its mission is to work toward achieving a tobacco-free region, reduce illness and premature deaths attributed to tobacco, and provide a vision for all citizens to live tobacco free.
