CRAIG BEACH -- Councilwoman Joyce Hambrick turned in her resignation at a special village council meeting Saturday morning.
Mayor Larry Ellis II said Hambrick is moving to Arkansas, and her resignation takes effect Feb. 29. She was just re-elected to a new term in November, he said.
Council has 30 days to name Hambrick's replacement. Ellis said lawmakers are expected to act at the March 8 council meeting.
Anyone wanting to take Hambrick's seat should contact village council. If council does not act, the mayor will appoint a new council member.
Gunfire on East Side
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating gunfire on Ayers Street on the city's East Side that damaged a house and a car.
Witnesses told police a maroon Jeep Cherokee, a silver sport utility vehicle and a black car with its back window shot out were driving down Ayers Street around 2 p.m. and people inside the vehicles were shooting at one another.
Police said a house on the 200 block of Ayers Street had more than 17 bullet holes in it, and a car parked near the house had a bullet hole.
Police said they had no suspects.
Buckeye block watch
YOUNGSTOWN -- Buckeye Eyes & amp; Ears Blockwatch will meet to discuss ways to keep the 7th Ward neighborhood cleaner, safer and drug free, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Word of Grace Church, 2724 Mount Vernon Ave.
Information also will be given out how people can join the block watch and the advantages of being a member. Refreshments will be served.
Salary committee
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Community School's salary committee will meet at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the board room at the school, 50 Essex St.
Man dies in house fire
NEW CASTLE -- Charles P. Kimmel, 70, of Old Butler Road died in a fire at his house Friday night, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police at the New Castle barracks.
The fire started at 5:42 p.m. in the Shenango Township home. It remains under investigation.
No further information was available late Saturday.
