YSU decides not to renew lawyer's contract

YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University officials have announced that they will not renew the contract of university general counsel Sandra Denman.
Atty. Denman's contract expires at the end of June; her salary for serving as YSU's lawyer is $91,560. She has been reassigned to fill the vacant position as YSU's director of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety. The position has been open since former director, Leonard Perry, retired in December.
Perry's salary was $82,085.
Sandra Senedak has been working as interim director since Perry's retirement. She is associate director of Environmental and Occupational Health and safety. Her salary, $61,322, has been supplemented by a $600 per month stipend while she serves as interim director.
According to a memo sent from YSU President David C. Sweet to his cabinet members, the university will seek a new general counsel to start in July.
John Habat, YSU's vice president for administration, has been appointed interim assistant general counsel. He is handling all new matters while Denman is working to resolve matters received by her office before Jan. 31.
