Pupil is struck by car in front of Secrest Elementary

WARREN -- Police are investigating a crash that sent a 6-year-old boy to the hospital.
Davion Allen was leaving Secrest Elementary at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday and was crossing Bennett Avenue to get to his home when he was hit by a car, according to reports.
The first-grade pupil was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Jill Merolla, school principal, didn't witness the accident, but said the boy, who lives across the street, was crossing to meet his mother, who waited at the other side.
Merolla described the reaction of the mother and the children who saw the car hit Davion as "shocked."
Bennett Avenue is a quiet street, she said, adding that problems are rare.
"We may request more police to help with traffic and make sure people don't speed," the principal said.
The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman, left the scene but returned to the area about 30 minutes later, officials said.
No charges have been filed.
